Dangerous Pattern For Tollywood in the U.S

The box office has gone through a major change post-COVID. The audience’s attention span has become too less for any film unless its word-of-mouth is outstanding. This is creating problems for films that have got decent ‘one-time-watchable’ kinda talk.

Last week’s F3 starring Venkatesh and Varun Tej received a positive response from the target audience. The film did very well in its first weekend, grossing $1.1 Million by its first Monday. F3 couldn’t secure big screens and ideal show timings due to Top Gun release.

The second weekend was crucial for the film, and the buyers were expecting that the audience would return to watch this family entertainer in decent numbers. But that didn’t happen as the collections have gone flat.

The audience’s attention has shifted to the new releases Major and Vikram. Adiv Sesh’s Major has crossed the $500K mark with Saturday Morning Totals and is on pace to breakeven by the end of Sunday itself. Vikram is also going well with mixed talk.

New release Major has eaten up F3’s second-weekend collections and trade experts predict that next week’s release, Ante Sundaraniki, will make a dent in Major’s second-week collections, which is not a healthy pattern.

Before COVID, if a film received a decent talk, it would have a run for at least a couple of weeks in the U.S. But now things have changed with a new release every week, and this is a dangerous trend.

Unless any film gets a phenomenal talk, the second week collections of that film will be a sorry affair in the coming days in U.S.
