Dasara Race: Five Films, Two Clear Front-Runners

Five films are now lined up around the Dasara weekend, but calling it a five-way box-office battle would be misleading. On paper, the festival looks crowded. On the ground, the real competition appears to be between just two films: Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 and Vijay Deverakonda’s Ranabaali.

The exit of Aadarsha Kutumbam has changed the complexion of the season. Venkatesh and Trivikram’s film could have been the major Telugu family-audience option during the holidays. With that film moving out, Jailer 2 and Ranabaali have gained even more importance in the Dasara market.

The remaining three releases, Crazy Kalyanam, Garividi Lakshmi and Summer Holidays, are also entering the same festival window, but their commercial positioning is nowhere close to the two big-ticket films. Their challenge is not necessarily to dominate Dasara, but to secure enough screens, shows and audience attention to make the festival release work in their favour.

That is where the real battle could get interesting. Jailer 2 has Rajinikanth’s massive pull, while Ranabaali comes with Vijay Deverakonda and Rashmika Mandanna, along with strong expectations around Rahul Sankrityan’s film. Both have the scale to demand prime screens and premium shows.

So, while five films are technically in the Dasara race, the festival box office may effectively become a two-film fight at the top, with the other three battling for whatever space remains.
