Dhurandhar 2 Flops in Tamil? Less Than Jawan & Animal

Ranveer Singh’s much-awaited sequel Dhurandhar: The Revenge, directed by Aditya Dhar, released in theatres on March 18th. The film has received very positive responses from both audiences and critics, creating strong buzz across the country.

The original Dhurandhar, which released last year, was a massive hit. It collected more than 1300 crores worldwide. Due to this success, expectations for Dhurandhar: The Revenge were extremely high before its release.

Riding on strong hype, the sequel opened to huge numbers across India. Reports suggest that Dhurandhar: The Revenge has already crossed 1000 crores worldwide within just seven days, making it the fastest Bollywood film to reach this milestone.

Despite its massive success overall, the film’s performance in South India has been underwhelming. Especially in Tamil Nadu, the numbers have been surprisingly low compared to expectations for a big Pan-Indian release.

So far, the film has collected only around 22 crores net in Tamil Nadu. This figure is considered low for a film of this scale. Trade analysts had earlier expected it to break existing records in the region.

Before release, many believed the film would surpass the collections of Jawan and Animal in their South Indian dubbed versions. However, current trends suggest it may not even reach those final figures.

For comparison, Jawan collected over 70 crores net in its South versions. Animal earned around 60 crores net across Tamil and Telugu markets. In contrast, Dhurandhar: The Revenge is lagging behind with nearly 22 crores.

This unexpected performance has left trade experts confused. Many are trying to understand why the film has not connected well with audiences in South India despite its nationwide success.

Some social media users claim that South Indian audiences are more selective. They argue that viewers did not show interest in what they perceive as a propaganda-driven film.

It remains to be seen how Dhurandhar: The Revenge performs in the coming days. The key question is whether it can at least reach a 50 crore net mark in its final run in South India.
