Dhurandhar 2: The Revenge is once again dominating social media discussions because of its highly unusual OTT release strategy. The film has already started streaming internationally on both Netflix and JioHotstar, but in India the rollout plan has created confusion, frustration, and heavy trolling among audiences.
According to the latest strategy, the film will first premiere in India on JioHotstar from June 5. After that, the same film is expected to arrive on Netflix India on June 19, just two weeks later. Such a dual-platform rollout is extremely rare in the Indian OTT market because films are usually removed from one service before shifting to another.
The biggest confusion now revolves around whether Dhurandhar 2 will continue streaming on both platforms simultaneously after June 19 or whether JioHotstar only secured a temporary exclusivity deal. Some viewers are also speculating that technical differences may exist between the two versions, with Dolby Atmos audio possibly remaining exclusive to JioHotstar while Netflix streams only a standard Dolby 5.1 version.
Many users mocked the strategy online. Several viewers questioned why audiences should subscribe to one platform first and then watch the same content again on another service shortly afterward.
At the same time, since India’s official release is delayed until June 5, pirated HD prints are already circulating online through Telegram groups and illegal websites. Some operators are reportedly selling downloadable copies for prices between Rs. 50 and Rs. 100.
Many viewers unwilling to wait for the Indian OTT release have already watched pirated versions online. Because of that, some industry observers feel JioHotstar’s decision to delay the premiere due to IPL streaming may have backfired by unintentionally pushing audiences toward piracy instead.
Dhurandhar 2 film reportedly fell short of the Rs. 2000 crore milestone at the box office, but trade experts still consider it a massive blockbuster.
At the same time, OTT response for the sequel itself remains divided. Many viral social media comments read: “I watched Dhurandhar Part 1 fully many times and revisited many scenes repeatedly. But Dhurandhar 2 starts feeling exhausting within just thirty minutes. Even the music doesn’t match the impact of the first part.”
