Top Overseas Openers: Can Dhurandhar 2 Beat SRK on the Top?

The film industry has suffered a lot in the last few years. But occasionally, there has been some good news at the same time, and the credit goes to a few big blockbusters. In certain cases, big superstars could not save the films from sinking at the box office. Talking about the successful titles, most of them managed to record the highest collections on the weekend overseas. The list is small. However, their content also left a positive impression on the audience and critics.

1) Pathaan

Shah Rukh Khan made a big comeback when two of his movies flopped. He followed a different strategy this time. The superstar entered the action genre, and it was something that was being demanded by his fans. The plan worked. There was style, scale, and substance. The glamour and some controversies involved with the film also helped. Apart from getting a big opening in India, the film recorded $26 million overseas without premieres.

2) Baahubali 2: The Conclusion

Prabhas became a popular face in the North Indian market almost nine years ago. The reason was the hype created by the first entry in S.S. Rajamouli’s most successful franchise. Entertainment was guaranteed with the arrival of the trailer. The screenplay was so engaging that no one wanted to leave the theatre during the movie. Tickets were sold out in a brief period. This was shocking, specifically in the Hindi belts. The overseas numbers were also outstanding. It collected almost $22.5 million.

3) Jawan

Whenever a South Indian director has entered Bollywood, the situation has been bigger than expectations. This is what happened when Atlee joined Shah Rukh Khan. The former created big records with Thalapathy Vijay in three films. It was clear that the director knew how to present a superstar. The content was loved by everyone. The three-hour film kept people hooked to their seats. The music was also a chartbuster. While the opening day numbers were better than Pathaan, the overseas figures were $21.5 million.

4) Pushpa 2: The Rule

The ending of the first entry hinted at a bigger conflict in the second part. The sequel repeated what happened in the previous one, going through multiple postponements. Once everything was finalized, people were eagerly waiting to see what would happen. The glimpses proved that the movie was being made on a huge scale. The content of the film also did not disappoint, although the runtime crossed more than three hours. The excitement was visible outside India. The collections touched the mark of $19.22 million.

5) Leo

Thalapathy Vijay’s arrival has always ended a dry season at the theatres. The situation has not changed even after the pandemic. The budgets have expanded. The fans have not lost their faith, even if the content does not impress sometimes. After Master, the superstar joined Lokesh Kanagaraj this time. The makers also brought Sanjay Dutt for an intense confrontation. The plans did not fail and easily pulled the masses to the theatres. The final result was an overseas collection of $18.21 million.

6) Kalki 2898 AD

The initial glimpses hinted towards a Star Wars-like experience. It was later revealed that the director Nag Ashwin had created a post-apocalyptic world. A big lineup of stars was brought to leave an impression on everyone. The movie was made on a big scale, and audiences did not refuse to buy tickets for entertainment. The Hindi version also unexpectedly attracted crowds to the big screen in India. The numbers outside India were also record-breaking, with collections touching $17.90 million.

7) Coolie

Rajinikanth’s intention was simple. Provide entertainment to the masses. No one could have possibly helped him this time except Lokesh Kanagaraj. Four other big superstars were cast to make it a proper pan-India film. Despite clashing with War 2, there was a lot of hype. People purchased tickets without any hesitation. The numbers went through a lot of ups and downs due to criticism of the content. The overseas figures were almost $17.40 million.

The ongoing month has created bigger expectations than what we have seen so far. Dhurandhar: The Revenge is releasing in theatres on Eid. A bumper response is already expected on the first day. People have already declared the sequel a blockbuster before its release. Now the whole industry is waiting to see what will happen outside India. The pre-sales numbers are already $7.55 million. Let’s see what is in store for the upcoming sequel.
