Did Tamil Industry Surrender the Battle to Tollywood?

Mani Ratnam’s Ponniyin Selvan was considered the Tamil Fim Industry’s answer to SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali. It was projected as a film that would show the power of Tamil cinema on a Pan-India level at the box office. The film did tremendously well at the Tamil box office, but in other markets, the film was a total failure.

Now the second part of the film, PS 2, is on the verge of its release. But the makers seem to have lost interest in promoting the film in languages other than Tamil. While the promotions are in full swing in Tamil Nadu, there is complete silence in the Telugu market.

After Tamil Nadu, Telugu states are considered to be the best market for Tamil films. Many Tamil films in the past have collected shares close to top-tier star films. But after the lukewarm response to its first part, the makers of Ponniyin Selvan 2 are in no mood to do some ground-level promotions and give some boost to its hype in Telugu states.

It looks as if the Tamil Industry has conceded its defeat to The Telugu film industry and has completely accepted that Tollywood is supreme.

Apart from Vikram and Karthi, PS 2 stars Aishwarya Rai, Trisha, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Shobita Dhulipala, Vikram Prabhu, Sarath Kumar, Prakash Raj, and others. The film is releasing on April 28th, along with Akhil Akkineni’s much-awaited Agent.
