Prashanth Neel’s upcoming action-drama Dragon has added a clear Bollywood flavor with the entry of Anil Kapoor. The veteran actor has joined the cast as the antagonist. Casting a Hindi star opposite a top Telugu hero has become a trend in recent years, starting with actors like Neil Nitin Mukesh, Jackie Shroff, and continuing with Bobby Deol across multiple big Telugu films.
The makers are maintaining silence about Anil Kapoor’s exact role in Dragon. However, sources close to the team suggest that his character appears at a crucial point in the story. While the role is said to be brief, it is described as highly significant to the narrative. According to insiders, Anil Kapoor agreed to do the part largely out of goodwill toward Jr NTR, who plays the lead.
This casting choice has also revived nightmares of WAR 2, where Anil Kapoor was seen alongside NTR. WAR 2 belonged to YRF’s doomed Spy Universe. Anil Kapoor played the R&AW chief, who was also NTR’s boss. That role, however, was widely bashed for being ineffective and disconnected from the main plot. His scenes with NTR were heavily trolled on social media for lacking any kind of impact or relevance.
Now, with Dragon, director Prashanth Neel is bringing the same combination of NTR and Anil Kapoor back in a very different cinematic space. Unlike the slick spy setup of WAR 2, Dragon is expected to be a raw and intense action drama, which could allow Anil Kapoor to make a stronger impression.
Whether this pairing works better under Neel’s direction remains to be seen. For now, Anil Kapoor’s entry has added curiosity and debate around Dragon, especially among fans who hope this collaboration delivers some impact this time and helps them forget the disaster titled WAR 2.
