Anand Devarakonda returned to the big screens with his latest film Epic. This film had its paid premieres on September 10, which played a reasonable role in the revenue generation.
Coming to the actual box office returns of this film, it has painted a peculiar story. Considering the banking of the big production house and wide release, Epic was expected to open on a big note.
The image carried forward by director Aditya Haasan, who is famous for directing the 90s web series was also expected to help the cause.
But in terms of actual numbers, the film was able to collect in the vicinity of ₹3.5 crore gross on the opening day. This is right up there in the not great, but not bad bracket.
This is one of the better starts for Anand in recent times so that’s some kind of a positive. But with a better reception from the premieres and more positive reviews, the number could have been significantly higher.
A strong audio album is always needed for a love to succeed at the ticket counters and that was also badly missing here. A better audio album could have worked wonderfully well for this film.
The Director might have been honest with his approach or point of view but the audience expectations were different. The mismatch is evident in the film now.
The film will face a big challenge of sustaining the momentum at the ticket counters over the weekend and only time will tell if it can actually go on to emerge as a winner in terms of theatrical returns.
