Everyone forgot this film but not the Court

Perhaps ‘Lingaa’ is one Rajnikanth movie which has got him into numerous legal hassles. Of course, all of them got sorted out one by one keeping the superstar’s name buzzing in media for months after the debacle of the movie. By now everyone has forgotten ‘Lingaa’ but not the court.

On April 8, the first bench of Madras High Court comprising Chief Justice Mr.Kaul and Justice TS Sivagnanam dismissed a case on ‘Lingaa’ as the Public Interest Litigation was withdrawn by the petitioner who alleged that ‘Lingaa’ was granted tax exemption illegally because of the superstar’s influence.

His main allegation was that ‘Lingaa’ is a Sanskrit word and according to government order, only films with Tamil titles would get the tax exemption. One V Amritharaj filed a case on the superstar for the illegal tax exemption but he withdrew the case finally and the court dismissed it.
