Facts behind Dutt still in Jail!

There had been a lot of buzz on cutting short the jail term of convicted Bollywood star hero Sanjay Dutt. But Dutt is still in jail and the reason behind his continuation in jail despite being granted forgiveness for good behaviour has come out.

Justice Katju has sought early release and commutation of Dutt’s sentence. But Maharashtra government has rejected justice Katju’s plea and later even the President of India too turned down the plea. Katju’s reasoning looks a bit filmy.

His explanation says that Dutt acted in movies which addressed social causes and hence should be granted freedom from jail. Can acting in social message films make a person’s offence lesser when he had committed a crime which is disruptive to the integrity of the Nation?
