Creating fake Twitter trends either positively or negatively is another import from Bollywood. It has been a long existing trend in Bollywood where the biggest damages were seen by Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan. Ironically, the latter was one of the first initiators of the trend. He is getting beaten in his own game recently.
The idea is simple, hire a team, create bots and promote fake trends or spam with comments and keep the buzz going regarding the film in social media. Anyone who checks the trending topics or comments regarding the movies in question can easily identify them. The fake trends have now got maximum visibility courtesy the two biggies Jai Lava Kusa and Spyder.
We are not getting into “who-does-them?” as it’s quite evident. Rather we only want to point out that Bollywood, where this sort of culture is rampant, is hardly getting any success out of it. The movies of biggest stars or well-known names are examples. At the end of the day, it is the content that matters. The good content will work no matter what, but these sorts of promotions add negativity when the movie fails. The fall would be swift because it has been artificially hyped up in the first place. We hope our promoters keep that in mind.
