Flipkart to shut down its website!

Indian e-commerce giant, Flipkart had decided to shutdown its website within an year and will continue only on app-format later. The e-commerce giant already successfully drove its customers to APP by rolling out special discounts there and now the mobile traffic increase 10-fold which was just 6% of their traffic an year ago.

Flipkart says that shopping experience is more hassle free for users on app than on Website. This move will also save the company from the costs incurred on maintaining a website, advertising and reaching out to consumers on the web platform. They also say that collecting relevant user data and targetted marketing is easier on the app than on the website.

According to Boston Consulting Group, More than 580 million people in India are expected to be online by 2018 out of which 70-80% will be accessing the web through their phones only. Flipkart’s fashion retail website Myntra will become app-only entity from May 1.
