GHMC has no funds to end beggar menace!

Last year, GHMC had chalked out an elaborate plan to rid the roads of beggars. They have planned to rehabilitate them to stop the menace. However as GHMC started ground work, they are taken back when many take begging as a profession and earn anywhere between Rs 300 and Rs 1,500 a day.

A survey conducted by an NGO revealed that they were not interested in being rehabilitated and are quite happy with the easy money they are getting. The survey was jointly conducted by the Hyderabad traffic police and Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

According to GHMC, their official headcount is a modest 1,000 while actual numbers may touch to more than 3000 beggars. The corporation had kept aside the rehabilitation program for now citing lack of funds to implement the ambitious drive.
