Guru Trailer: Aggressive And Gritty Venki Returns

When the Tamil sports drama Irudhi Suttru hit cinemas last year, actor Madhavan came under tremendous praise for his acting skills as offensive but a well-intentioned coach. It was a challenging role, and the actor pulled it off with aplomb. Naturally, keeping his performance in mind, many expressed concerned when Venkatesh stepped in his place.

Venkatesh is a great artist when it comes to drama and emotions, but they are mostly in family genre. The few other ones operate in mass space where the loudness is allowed, but those appearances have been rare. In Guru the character is devoid of that masala element and sentiment and yet it has to be very powerful. This tough and aggressive aspect has been pulled off convincingly by Venkatesh, and that is all one needs to see. The rest looks to be a translation from original which might work to film’s disadvantage in Telugu.
