Hanuman Ansh eyes Telugu box office success
The Telugu box office is going through one of those weeks where the number of releases looks healthy on paper, but the theatres tell a completely different story. Epic, Mahendragiri Varahi, Maremma, Sardar 2 and Mandaadi arrived this week, yet none of them has managed to create any real impact. Most of these films are heading towards a flop or disaster verdict, with audiences simply not showing up at theatres.
Irumudi is not helping the situation either. Ravi Teja’s blockbuster run has almost completely slowed down, and with the film arriving on OTT from September 18, its theatrical journey can effectively be considered over. After giving the industry a strong run for several weeks, Irumudi is now making way for the next set of releases, but there is no obvious replacement at the Telugu box office.
The one surprise is coming from the Hindi film Hanuman Ansh. The film is having a miraculous run in Hindi. Interestingly, the biggest reason people are talking about it is not necessarily the content. The line that a film made on a budget of just Rs. 2 crores is heading towards Rs. 200 crores has become its biggest marketing weapon. It has created one simple question in the audience’s mind: What is so special about this film?
That curiosity is clearly helping the Hindi version. Now the test begins in Telugu. The dubbed version is arriving next week, and its fate will show whether the Hanuman Ansh phenomenon is actually about the movie or the incredible box-office story surrounding it.
Malayalam blockbuster Bethlehem Kudumba Unit recently came to Telugu but flopped badly. So, a successful original-language run does not automatically guarantee a dubbed success here.
