5 Years, 100s of Crores: HHVM’s Most Crucial Night

In recent years, the tradition of night-before premieres for Tier-1 star films has almost vanished. After the Baahubali phenomenon, producers became wary of early shows, fearing the damage negative reviews on social media could cause.

A single unfavorable comment can spread like wildfire overnight, hurting a film’s prospects even before release. As a result, most big-budget films now prefer early morning shows on the release day itself.

Pushpa 2: The Rule changed this narrative. Released on December 5, it held special premieres on the night of December 4, with premium ticket prices.

This bold move proved that, when handled well, early screenings can generate massive hype and amplify day-one collections.

Hari Hara Veera Mallu is also following the same path. Producer A. M. Rathnam has confirmed plans to hold special shows on July 23 from 9 PM, one night before its official release on July 24.

Adding to the excitement, the Andhra Pradesh government has approved a special ticket price hike for ten days, from July 24 to August 2.

Multiplex tickets can be increased by Rs. 200, single-screen upper balcony tickets by Rs. 150, and lower-class tickets by Rs. 100. Moreover, the government has cleared special premiere shows on July 23 with a flat ticket price of Rs. 600 across all theaters.

According to AM Rathnam, this price hike is not about profiteering but recovering the film’s massive investment.

The production has spanned nearly five years, with hundreds of crores spent on grand visuals, extensive VFX, and a star-studded cast. Rathnam believes that regular ticket prices cannot justify the scale and ambition of the film.

However, this strategy comes with risks. Audiences will expect exceptional content to justify the high prices. If the film delivers, the hike will be seen as fair.

If not, backlash from fans and trolls could hurt its momentum. Hari Hara Veera Mallu now joins Pushpa 2 as one of the few films in recent memory to secure such an aggressive ticket pricing strategy.

If Hari Hara Veera Mallu clicks with the audience, it could revive the box office, bring back housefull boards, and set the stage for a strong comeback for Telugu cinema.

This is Pawan Kalyan’s first release since becoming the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.

His fans and Jana Sena supporters are gearing up for massive celebrations. All signs point to Hari Hara Veera Mallu premieres turning into a festival on July 23.
