The box office clash between Dunki and Salaar wasn’t as bombastic as first expected. With Salaar being a mass actioner, it could get good openings all over, and as for Dunki, the SRK-Hirani brand didn’t work too much as the film is managing to post moderately good openings.
In the Hindi belt, Salaar scored Rs 15.5 crores nett on its first day for all languages combined. This is below RRR’s tally of 19 crores but this Rajamouli film had a solo release and good promotions. Salaar has nothing but the action-packed second trailer to attract Hindi folk. The competition from Dunki meant less share of theaters.
The positive thing for Salaar is that it has struck a chord in mass belts like pockets of Maharashtra, Odisha, East Punjab, Central, and others. The film posted better numbers than Dunki here which is a positive sign. Experts anticipate that the film could have a long run in these northern belts as Salaar appeals to the masses, while Dunki caters to A centers and plexus.
As for Dunki, it took a complete dip on the second day in South India due to the clash with Salaar. It has collected Rs 48 crores nett in India till now. It has to be seen how the film will fare over the weekend in competition with Salaar.
If Salaar can get a long run in the Hindi belt, then the film is in for a fiery run overall. But first, it should show a considerable spike in the weekend and hold on Monday (Christmas holiday).
