Indian Theatrical Footfalls: Telugus on Top

The Indian theatrical market saw many ebbs and flows after the onset of the Covid pandemic. Here’s an interesting report on the theatrical footfalls in the domestic market and more so, pertaining to the Telugu market.

2024 reveals that India’s theatre-going population has witnessed 29% growth over the last year, and now stands at 157.4 Million (15.7 Cr) audiences. This positive upswing is a hugely positive news for the big scale filmmakers in Indian cinema.

Coming to the 2023 statistical points, In the previous year, Telugu market is at the top with an average of 9 movies watched per person. This is the highest for any language audience.

While the typical number of movies watched by Indians is 6, the number bumps up to 9 in the Telugu market which is a substantial jump.

This report is based on a sample size of 8500 including both urban and rural communities. The survey was compiled back in January this year.
