Coming to Indian figures, according to the latest reports say that the film is very near to Rs.100 crore (nett), a superb figure for any Hollywood movie till date in India. ‘Fast & Furious 7’ superb reception isn’t limited to box-office performance. It is learnt that the film was downloaded 2.59 million times worldwide on torrento networks.
And surprisingly, the highest number of downloads (5,78,000) had been from India. Unlike other Hollywood movies which went for theatrical release in India much later after the actual release, ‘Furious 7’ came to India very early. Even then the rush to download pirated version in India suggests that copying a film from internet is not considered as piracy here.
Pakistan and China stand only next to India with 3,21,000 and 2,89,000 pirated version downloads respectively from torrento. It’s like piracy has become like a habit in some countries like Pakistan and India where in the internet rush has increased considerably in the past couple of years.
It also seems a matter of convenience to download a pirated version than taking time off to go to a theatre for watching Hollywood movies. Though we are discussing on piracy of Furious 7, Indians stand sixth in the world among the audiences who watch pirated versions of many Oscar-nominated movies. And of course, even developed countries like Australia and Singapore aren’t behind in watching the pirated versions.
