Dr. K.S.R. Murthy, former scientist in-charge of National institute of Oceanography (NIO) said the earthquake in Nepal occurred due to tectonic plate shifts. Mr.Murthy says that the South India is in a very stable zone and has very less chances of Earth Quakers due to tectonic plate shifts than the North India. However AP still have two reasons to have Earth Quakes but are not dangerous.
Earth Quakes can be caused due to massive production of natural gas and oil from the Godavari basin, effective stress is created in the gas reservoirs and the second reaon is due to deep digging in places like Vijayawada and Guntur. As a result, places near Amaravathi may experience moderate earthquakes up to an intensity of 4 on Richter scale but are unlikely to cause major Earth Quakes.
