Modi to lay foundation stone for Iskcon temple in Guntur

Along with the foundation stone of Amaravati, Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu will also lay foundation for the first Golden Temple in the State by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) on Vijayadasami Day (October 22).

A rare idol of Venna Mudda Gopaludu (butter Krishna idol) was found during the excavations at the Kondaveedu fort. The idol is said to be belonging to the 13th century during Sri Krishnadevaraya period, it inspired ISKCON to construct a golden butter Krishna temple at Kondaveedu.

Already preliminary works like construction of sheds and rearing of cows at the Cow Protection Centre (Gosala) began a few months ago. This temple is being planned with a budget of 200 Crore and the State government had given 80 acres of land for the venture.
