Jailer 2 Release Plans Raise Box Office Doubts

Rajinikanth‘s most anticipated sequel Jailer 2 directed by Nelson Dilipkumar is all set for a worldwide theatrical release on October 15th. With only a few days left until the release, the pre-bookings for the film are now happening at a brisk pace.

Since the announcement, Jailer 2 has had huge expectations among audiences and many people believed that Jailer 2 would emerge as the first 1000-crore grosser of Kollywood.

However, it seems like the makers of Jailer 2, because of their poor planning, have reduced the chance of the film emerging as the first 1000-crore grosser.

This is because, due to poor promotions, the pre-release hype for Jailer 2 is largely missing in Tamil Nadu. Although the bookings are decent, they are not even close to the pre-sales of Rajinikanth’s last film, Coolie.

At the same time, even though the original Jailer skipped a North Indian multiplex release, many Hindi audiences watched Jailer on OTT after its digital premiere and it became a hit.

Hence, it was initially expected that Sun Pictures would promote Jailer 2 well in North India and ensure the film’s release in North Indian multiplexes by signing an 8 week OTT window.

But it seems like Sun Pictures has totally messed up the Hindi version’s release of Jailer 2, because as of now, North Indian multiplexes have not yet opened their bookings.

Consequently, many people on social media have started spreading rumours that Jailer 2 is not going to release in North Indian multiplexes, claiming that the makers have signed a 4-week OTT window.

Although there have been no official updates on this news, many people believe these rumours and severely criticize Sun Pictures for their poor planning because of the lack of promotions in North India, despite casting multiple Hindi star performers.

Meanwhile, the pre-sales of Jailer 2 are also very low in the Telugu states. Despite the fact that the original Jailer was a massive success, it seems like its sequel does not have good pre-release hype there.

However, the makers have now planned a grand pre-release event in the Telugu states, and trade experts believe that bookings will pick up following that event. Additionally, in Canada, pre-bookings for Jailer 2 have not yet begun due to agreement issues.

Amidst all these drawbacks, the only positive for the Jailer 2 pre-bookings is its Kerala response, as the pre-bookings are solid and Jailer 2 is now all set to open with record breaking numbers in Kerala.

Considering the sequel hype and the casting of star performers from North to South, Jailer 2 was the only film with massive potential to achieve Kollywood’s dream 1,000 crore mark amongst all the upcoming biggies.

However, the makers of Jailer 2 have reduced its chances of becoming a 1000-crore grosser with their poor release plans and now the film’s massive box office success solely depends on positive word of mouth.

Despite the poor release plans, many trade experts believe that if the film receives positive responses from audiences after the first show, this situation will completely change and Jailer 2 will go on a rampage at the box office.

Overall, it remains to be seen whether Jailer 2 will satisfy the expectations of the audiences and emerge as a huge blockbuster success upon its release on October 15th.
