Title Clash: Which Side Judge Will Take?

As we reported earlier, multi-language releases are now dealing with a new headache: ensuring that their pan-India title is not legally registered by anyone in different languages.

Though not an overly difficult task, production houses have to spend extra money and time to ensure there won’t be any legal issues with the title before making an official announcement.

Rajinikanth’s “Jailer” is now in the same boat. The film will have a multi-language release, but the title has hit a legal roadblock in Malayalam, as a small Mallu filmmaker has already registered it.

They requested Rajinikanth and Sun Pictures to change their title, but the team did not comply. Now, the issue has reached the Madras High Court.

It will be interesting to see which side the judge will take and what judgment will be passed.

Interestingly, both films have chosen the same release date – August 10.
