Thalapathy Vijay’s film Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth, was initially scheduled for a worldwide release on January 9. The film was postponed due to delays in obtaining its censorship certificate. There is still no official update on a new release date.
Amid this delay, Jana Nayagan was leaked online, creating shock across the Kollywood industry. The incident raised serious concerns among the makers and trade circles. Many experts suggested releasing the film soon after the state elections to limit further damage.
At the same time, the OTT deal has become uncertain. Amazon Prime had reportedly acquired the streaming rights for around 120 crores. However, due to the delay and piracy issues, reports suggest that the platform has withdrawn from the agreement.
This development has put the makers in a difficult position. Without a confirmed OTT deal, the theatrical release process faces complications. Recent reports indicate that Zee5 is offering around 50 crores to acquire the streaming rights.
The reported offer is significantly lower than the earlier deal. This has led to hesitation among the producers, as accepting it would mean a major financial setback. Trade experts believe such a move could impact the overall recovery of the project.
As of now, there is no official confirmation on these developments. It remains to be seen whether the makers will finalise a new OTT deal and proceed with the film’s release. The situation continues to evolve with multiple uncertainties.
