Janhvi Kapoor, who made her debut seven years ago with Dhadak, began her career with promise. However, despite multiple attempts, she has struggled to deliver consistent box office success in Bollywood.
Her performance in Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl on Netflix earned her praise for acting skills. But since then, most of her theatrical releases have failed to perform. Last year’s Ulajh was a major flop, disappointing critics and audiences alike.
This year has been even more challenging for Janhvi. In just two months, she had three releases Param Sundari, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, and Homebound. While the first two opened decently, they quickly collapsed at the box office. Homebound received positive reviews but did not perform commercially.
After facing three consecutive flops, Janhvi is now reportedly turning her focus toward South Indian cinema, where she sees better opportunities amid a shortage of established heroines.
Her Telugu debut, Devara, turned out to be a mixed experience. Though the film succeeded at the box office, her role lacked depth and came across as cheap and underwritten. However, the film’s success gave her a much-needed boost.
Now, Janhvi is acting in Peddi alongside Ram Charan, directed by Buchi Sana. Reports suggest her character will be more substantial, balancing glamour and performance. Fans are hopeful that this role will finally allow Janhvi to prove her range.
Whether Peddi becomes her breakout moment or just another ornamental role remains to be seen.
