Remake specialist gets one right with straight film

Editor Mohan has not produced movies for a long time in Telugu and hence one might be unaware of him or his son’s Jayam Ravi and Raja in Telugu now. But like the father known for making blockbuster remakes in Telugu his son’s are known for making blockbuster remakes in Tamil.

Over the years they have carved a niche for themselves such that the remake tag has forever haunted them. The fact that the straight films didn’t work that well for them also adds to the general perception. Right from debut the brother’s duo have remade popular films like Jayam, Bommarillu, Amma Nanna O Tamil Ammayi, Varsham, Azad, Nuvvu Vasthanante Nenu Vaddantana etc.

However after many years the duo has finally found success through a direct Tamil film. Their new film Thani Oruvan that released today has opened with superb reviews all over which also seems to be matching with public response. With more big films lined up in weeks ahead we have to see if this original film sustains and emerges a hit or not.
