Suriya’s Veera Bhadrudu on OTT Sooner Than Expected?

Tamil star Suriya and Trisha Krishnan have reunited on screen after a long gap for the fantasy action drama Karuppu, dubbed in Telugu as Veera Bhadrudu. After facing multiple delays and last-minute hurdles, the film finally released in theatres on Friday.

Directed by RJ Balaji, the film carried decent expectations before release, especially because of the fresh combination of courtroom drama, fantasy elements, and commercial action packed into the story. Suriya fans had been waiting for the film for a long time due to its repeated postponements, and according to early reports, the movie has opened decently in Tamil with a gross of Rs. 18 crores, including around 3 crores from Telugu states. From here, the film might, in the worst-case scenario, become an average success, but definitely not a flop.

Industry sources say the makers witnessed good ticket sales on release day, with a strong turnout particularly from mass centres where Suriya traditionally enjoys a loyal fan base. Many viewers were also curious to watch Suriya and Trisha share screen space again after several years, which further boosted the openings.

While the theatrical response is extremely mixed, the film is still expected to post a decent-to-good weekend collection, which should be enough for it to sail through comfortably. Since there were no big releases for many months, there is a visible hunger among audiences to watch a star hero film in theatres.

Now, another important update regarding the film’s digital rights has also surfaced. According to the latest reports, popular streaming giant Amazon Prime Video has acquired the post-theatrical OTT rights for the movie. This means “Veera Bhadrudu” will begin streaming on Amazon Prime Video after completing its theatrical run. The tentative release date is June 12, though nothing has been officially confirmed.

For Suriya, the movie is particularly important because he has been looking for a strong commercial comeback after a series of underwhelming theatrical performances in recent years. This film might offer him some relief, though the search for a big success might still be on.
