Koratala with Balakrishna: Time for Revenge on Boyapati?

The latest reports in Tollywood suggest that Koratala Siva is set to direct Nandamuri Balakrishna. The combination has instantly grabbed attention, especially because of their indirect connection during Simha, one of Balakrishna’s biggest blockbusters. That film came as a huge relief to fans when their idol was delivering back-to-back disasters.

According to industry talk, Koratala Siva recently narrated a powerful action drama to Nandamuri Balakrishna, who reportedly liked it and gave an immediate nod. Known for blending commercial storytelling with social themes, Koratala now seems to be aiming for a mix of that narrative strength with Balakrishna’s mass image. The team is also said to be working on a completely new look for the actor.

The film was aimed for a Sankranti 2027 release, but current reports suggest a shift towards summer 2027 for better planning and execution. Producers Sudhakar Cherukuri and Sudhakar Mikkilineni are backing the project, with an official announcement expected in May.

Koratala Siva is currently focused on locking the script and completing pre-production. The plan is to begin shooting in August and wrap by February next year, which aligns with a summer 2027 release.

There is also a backstory that adds weight to this collaboration.

Koratala Siva had previously revealed in interviews that he worked on Simha in its early stages but walked away due to disagreements over screen credits. Despite his initial involvement, he did not receive official writing or dialogue credit in the final film, with director Boyapati Srinu taking full credit.

Now, 16 years later, Koratala Siva finally gets a direct opportunity to work with Nandamuri Balakrishna.

Simha is still regarded as one of the best-written roles in Balakrishna’s career, especially in terms of characterization and impact. This gives Koratala a unique opportunity to respond, not through words, but through his work. If anything, this is his chance to deliver a film that goes beyond Simha and presents Balakrishna in an even more powerful, larger-than-life way.

But that will not be easy.

In Koratala’s recent films, his heroes have been passive and restrained. That approach will not work here. With Balakrishna, the expectation is clear, a dynamic, high-energy character that fully taps into his mass appeal.
