Mohanlal Breaks Silence: Regrets L2 Empuraan

Mohanlal has finally broken his silence on the controversy surrounding L2: Empuraan, addressing the political and communal backlash the film has faced since its release.

In a heartfelt statement, the Malayalam superstar acknowledged the distress caused by certain themes in the film and assured fans that the offending content will be removed.

The controversy erupted over scenes depicting Hindu-Muslim violence, including the burning of a Muslim village, a child being brutally killed, and a pregnant woman being assaulted.

These scenes led to strong reactions from audiences and political groups, with some accusing the film of pushing a divisive narrative.

Mohanlal stated, “As an artist, it is my duty to ensure that none of my films promote hatred toward any political movement, ideology, or religious group. The Empuraan team and I deeply regret the distress caused. We have collectively decided to remove such elements from the film.”

This comes after Major Ravi revealed that Mohanlal had not seen the complete version of the film before release and was personally upset over the controversy.

While scriptwriter Murali Gopy refused to comment, dismissing the backlash as a matter of interpretation, the decision to modify the film suggests that the protests had a significant impact.

With political parties divided—some praising the film for its bold stance while others criticized its portrayal of real-life events—this move aims to pacify audiences and prevent further backlash.

However, it remains to be seen whether these edits will completely diffuse the controversy or if the damage has already been done.
