L2: Empuraan Turning Headache for Salman’s Sikandar

Prithviraj Sukumaran aimed to make L2 Empuraan starring Mohanlal and himself a pan-India project. The film had to face backlash in North India by opposing forces like broadcasters and cinplexes.

Yet the demand was so high that none could stop it from locking in 10 crore rupees in the early bookings. Film pundits predict that it might just become the biggest Malayalam opener in the North.

It is interesting because at the same time L2 has to battle with Sikandar, Chhaava and Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire re-release. Although Salman Khan might be aiming for a strong comeback with AR Murugadoss’ Sikandar releasing on Eid, the makers seem a bit afraid of the L2 pre-bookings.

The booking window of Sikandar is soon to open up but still it is a smart move that they are avoiding a Friday release and not facing L2. Sikandar has the star power and appeal, yet due to Salman’s uncertain box office in the recent past people are not ready to bet anything on the film yet.

It would highly depend on the early reviews how well the film does overall. Chhaava on the other hand is racing to 600 crore collection, despite some violent repercussions in Mumbai.
