Legendary cinematographer – director Balu Mahendra passes away

Balu Mahendra legendary cinematographer who revolutionized cinematography in South India is no more. He passed away earlier today with heart attack in Chennai after being admitted in hospital following a complaint of chest pain.

Balu Mahendra has won several awards across all the South Indian languages for his cinematography. In Telugu he has won Nandi awards for cinematography for the film Manavoori Pandavulu and Nireekshana.He was also a renowned director as well with number of critically acclaimed films to his credit. The classic film Nireekshana starring Bhanu Chander and Archana was the only direct film, he made in Telugu. Vasantha Kokila (Telugu dubbed version of Tamil Moondram Pirai) starring Kamal Haasan and Sridevi is another classic film of the director in Telugu.
