Varanasi continues to generate attention despite the makers maintaining tight control over official visuals.
The latest round of speculation began when a theatre in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, displayed a digital poster showing Mahesh Babu in the look of Lord Rama.
The image, which has circulated widely online, has not been formally released by the production team, raising questions about whether it is authorised promotional material, fan art, or an overenthusiastic exhibition move.
So far, there has been no confirmation from director S. S. Rajamouli or the producers regarding the authenticity of the hoarding.
However, Rajamouli had earlier confirmed during the film’s launch event in November 2025 that Mahesh Babu portrays Lord Rama in a significant episode of the story. He disclosed that a Ramayana segment was filmed over a 60-day schedule and described his strong initial reaction to seeing the actor in costume.
Mahesh Babu has also spoken publicly about preparing for the role, noting that the director demanded physical and visual precision.
According to the actor, he worked on posture, gait and detailing, and trained in Kalaripayattu for three months to suit the character’s requirements.
The appearance of the theatre poster underscores the level of anticipation surrounding the project, even in the absence of an official campaign rollout.
At the same time, it highlights how quickly unofficial visuals can shape public perception in the digital age. Until the makers release confirmed material, the current buzz remains speculative rather than definitive.
