Rajamouli: Mahesh Babu Went Beyond My Expectations

Mahesh Babu As Rudhra In Varanasi

Mahesh Babu’s Rudhra in Varanasi is shaping up to be less about the superstar image and more about the performance behind the character. SS Rajamouli’s latest comments have added another layer of curiosity to a role that was already designed with several contrasting shades.

Rajamouli has described Rudhra as a character who has to be funny, vulnerable, and immensely powerful. The described combination demands more than the usual larger-than-life hero performance, requiring Mahesh to move between very different emotional spaces while also carrying the physical intensity of the character.

Mahesh has reportedly put considerable effort into preparing for Rudhra, particularly for the physically demanding portions of the film. But Rajamouli’s latest revelation suggests that the preparation was only part of the story. According to the director, Mahesh went far beyond what he had initially expected from him, prompting the much-discussed “200 percent” remark.

That comment becomes more interesting when viewed from the performance angle. Rajamouli isn’t merely talking about Mahesh putting in more effort; he is suggesting that the actor delivered something beyond the director’s original expectations for Rudhra.

That makes Rudhra one of the key talking points around Varanasi. The real curiosity is not simply how Mahesh will look in Rajamouli’s world, but how convincingly he can inhabit a character that demands humour, vulnerability and power from the same performance.
