Malayalam industry is on a roll with continuous hits and blockbusters this year.
Films like Manjummel Boys, Aavesham, Bramayugam, Premalu, Anweshippin Kandethum, and The GOAT Life have garnered both critical acclaim and huge commercial success.
However, the latest release, Turbo, starring Mammootty, seems to have put a brake on this winning streak. The initial feedback suggests that the Malayalam superstar may have missed the mark with this big-budget yet lackluster mass-action film.
At 72, Mammootty has been exploring various genres, from commercial gangster flicks like Bheeshma Parvam to psychological thrillers like Rorschach and compelling dramas like Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam. However, Turbo offers very little for him to perform.
Turbo falls short in terms of story and character development. Directed by Vysakh and written by Midhun Manuel Thomas, the film attempts to blend high-octane action with comedy but ends up feeling one-dimensional and disjointed. The storyline lacks coherence, bouncing from church festivals to financial scams to politics without a clear focus.
While Mammootty shines in the action sequences, the weak script and underdeveloped characters, including the villain played by the talented Raj B Shetty, leave much to be desired.
Overall, Turbo disappoints Mammootty’s fans, feeling more like a throwback to mindless action movies of the 90s rather than a standout addition to his impressive filmography.
