M9 News journalist Nishant interacted with director Maruthi ahead of the release of his maiden Pan-India film, The Rajasaab, starring Prabhas. The film is scheduled to hit theatres on January 9th and marks a major milestone in Maruthi’s career.
Maruthi recalled how the project came to him unexpectedly. He said he received a call from UV Pramod to meet Prabhas in Mumbai when the actor was shooting for Adipurush. During the meeting, Prabhas expressed his interest in horror comedy after watching Prema Katha Chitram.
The director shared that Prabhas plays the most important role in shaping the film. He described the actor as his ultimate judge and said that Prabhas’s confidence gives him belief. Maruthi feels that if Prabhas trusts the film, audiences will also connect with it.
He also explained why The Rajasaab took nearly three years to complete. Maruthi spoke about the film’s action portions, a climax built around a mind game, and the extensive VFX work. He said these elements needed time to achieve the right cinematic impact.
Talking about the Hindi market, Maruthi dismissed concerns over competition from other horror comedies. He said the film’s fantasy element makes it larger than life. According to him, this unique blend will help the film appeal to audiences across all languages.
Maruthi addressed recent controversies caused by his slip of tongue during public appearances. He clarified remarks that were seen as satire on NTR’s collar comment and a pre-release speech where Prabhas was called a medium-range hero before Baahubali.
He also reacted to criticism faced by the film’s songs and spoke about negative feedback online. Maruthi admitted that social media trolling affected him deeply. He revealed that many within the industry expected him to fail despite his previous successes.
The director concluded by inviting viewers to watch the full interview. He promised an honest and engaging conversation that sheds light on the film, the pressure he faced, and his journey with The Rajasaab.
