Media House Apologizes for Dalit Mention of Ilaiyaraja

The New Indian Express is brought to its knees after the Social Media outrage on its headlining music maestro Ilaiyaraaja’s achievement of getting a Padma Vibhushan as ‘Dalit outreach with Ilaiyaraja’s Padma’. The media house had issued an apology in today’s edition.

The Media house said it did not mean to diminish his stature by any means and deeply regretted the wrong message the headline has conveyed. This should be a lesson for all the media houses to be responsible for using the caste card.

Ilaiyaraja has composed more than 6500 songs and provided film scores for more than 1000 films and is a revered name in the music industry across the country. He is awarded Padma Vibhushan, the second civilian honor in the country on Friday.
