Mega Hero Can’t Afford OTT ‘Matka’ Blow

The makers of Varun Tej’s next film, “Matka,” have revealed that it’s a biopic of the renowned ‘Matka King,’ Ratan Khetri, a significant figure in the world of Matka gambling.

Ratan earned his title through his immense influence and control over the Matka gambling scene in India during the 1960s.

Now, Amazon Prime Video has also announced a web series titled “Matka King,” starring Vijay Varma and directed by Nagraj Manjule, renowned for “Sairaat.”

The series portrays a fictional tale set in 1960s Mumbai, following an ambitious cotton trader who introduces a new gambling game called ‘Matka,’ revolutionizing the city’s gambling scene previously dominated by the rich and elite.

It’s evident that both Varun Tej’s film “Matka” and the web series “Matka King” revolve around the same subject matter.

Varun Tej faced disappointment with his previous release, “Operation Valentine,” based on the Pulwama attacks, similar to Hrithik Roshan’s “Fighter.”

Fighter was released first and then people lost interest in watching Operation Valentine which also was a big reason for Varun Tej’s film becoming a huge disaster.

Now once again, Varun Tej is coming up with a film that is already being made in Hindi as a web series. If the web series releases first then Varun Tej’s film Matka might lose its sheen and can turn out to be another disappointment for him, which he just cannot afford right now. He is not in a position to face a double blow.
