‘Mersal Effect’: BJP Shows its Power to Vishal

In Tamil Nadu, politics and movies seem to be going hand in hand, but when an artist or a technician talks something political, it is certain to be blown out of proportions. That’s what is happening in the case of Vijay’s ‘Mersal‘.

While BJP is waging war on ‘Mersal’ team for the scene that talks against GST, Vishal came down heavily on BJP leader H. Raaja for watching the pirated version of the movie. Can you guess what could be the possible reaction? The very next day, GST Intelligence Team raided Vishal’s house.

But, the DG of the GST Intelligence said it wasn’t a raid but only a regular inspection on Vishal’s production house. Isn’t this action sending an implicit signal? ‘Mersal’ was attacked for criticising GST. Vishal’s production house was searched for backing ‘Mersal’ and talking about piracy. What does this indicate? Why this intolerance against freedom of expression?
