The Union Budget 2013-14 has allotted 200 Crore for the Statue of Unity which was proposed by Narendra Modi himself during his tenure as Chief Minister of Gujarat. It was Modi’s dream project for building Statue of Unity, a larger than life image of Sardar Vallabhbhai. But at the same time, the government has allocated just 100 Crore for the safety of women in the country.
People especially social media are foul-crying on government’s ignoring several crucial areas just for a statue. As many as 29 sectors in the budget are alloted less than 150 Crore. This statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel is 182-meters and will be built on an island near Sardar Sarovar dam, Gujarat. The statue will be two-time taller than the Statue of Liberty in the US. During the start of the project, the project cost was estimated at Rs 2063 crore and now the cost got scaled up to 2,980 crore.
