Modi sets a new record on Twitter

India’s new Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the third most followed leader in the World on the social networking site,Twitter. Modi today has surpassed Indonesia President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono who is currently at rank 3 and occupied the place. Only US President Barack Obama and Pope are ahead of Modi in Twitter followers count. Modi is also now the First-most followed Asian leader on Twitter.

Narendra Modi was active participant on Twitter during the days he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat. He used the platform very effectively during the election campaign and is also active there even after becoming the Prime Minister despite having a separate Twitter account for Prime Minister’s office. Within weeks of his thumping victory in recently concluded elections, the @NarendraModi account has moved into the top five most followed Twitter accounts of world leaders with close to five million followers. On several occasions, Modi keeps on telling that he is a firm believer in the power of technology and social media to communicate with people across the world.
