Mozart of Madras adds one more feather to his cap

A two time Academy winner from India isn’t something a simple accomplishment to deny the range of honour the Mozart of Madras, A.R.Rahman earned for himself by the virtue of his music. Latest, he added another feather to his cap of achievements. US-based Berklee College of Music offered annual scholarship to one Indian student in the name of Rehman.

Two decades ago, the same college of music accepted AR.Rahman’s admission but he chose otherwise and teamed up with ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam for ‘Roja’ and then started his expansion in the music world. Later he was honoured by a honorary degree by the same college.

Presently the scholarship given on Rahman’s name will allow funding for one student from India studying any discipline of music, be it classical Indian music like Hindustani and Carnatic or otherwise western music, western classic or jazz. The music school is happy for its collaboration with Rehman’s KM Music Conservatory in Chennai. And for India, a great honour for the Music Mozart of Madras.
