Nag Ashwin Admits Mistakes In Kalki 2898 AD

Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2898 AD is proving to be a hit at the box office. The film ended on a cliffhanger, leaving audiences eager for its sequel.

In a recent conversation, the Mahanati director said they have shot about 25 to 30 days, but much more remains. It’s almost like starting a whole new production.

Addressing criticisms of the film’s first boring and lethargic half, Ashwin admitted there were some issues and areas that could have been better. The first half focuses on Bhairava’s buildup, along with a subplot featuring Disha Patani. The audience felt Patani’s role could have been edited out, making the three-hour film shorter.

Nag Ashwin also admitted the release was rushed due to extensive VFX work and multiple language formats.

When asked about the progress of the sequel, Ashwin mentioned that there is still a lot of action left to be revealed. The big scenes are still to come, and they need to be done right.

Regarding the plot, Nag Ashwin explained that every loose end from the first film will be wrapped up. The main focus will be the face-off between Yaskin, who can now wield the powerful Arjun’s Gandeeva, and Karna and Ashwatthama, the most fearsome warriors.

Ashwin hinted that while Haasan had a limited role in Kalki 2898 AD, the sequel will prominently feature the Tamil superstar. Haasan plays Supreme Yaskin, a despotic ruler of the resource-rich Complex, and will be fully showcased as the antagonist.

Ashwin also mentioned that Bhairava is a reincarnation of Karna from the Mahabharata. He felt Karna’s character was unfinished and needed redemption and a final chapter.

Ashwin revealed that the idea for Kalki 2898 AD came to him a few months after his previous film, Mahanati. He cited his childhood exposure to the Mahabharata and the Star Wars series as influences.
