Thunderbolts, the Marvel film directed by Jake Schreier is all set to be released on 1 May in India. To get a U/A 13+ certificate the film had to go through cuts which rendered the film’s runtime 127 minutes.
CBFC gave the film its certificate on 23 April once they complied with the cut of 5 abusive words. This included words “a**,” “a**hole,” “d**ks,” “b***h,” and “prick,” which were unacceptable by the board.
Nani and Prashanti Tipirneni starrer Telugu thriller HIT 3 is also set to release this May 1st on a pan-Indian scale. This film also got a similar treatment as Thunderbolts and even harsher.
Words like “f**k and ch***a” were limited and muted at many places. Despite heavy censoring and both audio and visual cuts the film has received A certificate.
Fans feel that Marvel’s appeal amongst children and youth might be the reason for its U/A 13+ certification while Nani’s HIT 3 is clearly for a mature audience. It will be interesting to see despite similar treatment by the CBFC which film will rule over Indian masses coming weekend.
