72nd National Film Awards in Gujarat
The National Film Awards are breaking away from their usual Delhi setting this year. But the venue they have picked makes this year’s ceremony a little more interesting.
The 72nd National Film Awards ceremony will be held at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat on September 22, near the Statue of Unity. President Droupadi Murmu will present the awards.
The National Awards have mostly been associated with Delhi over the years. This time, the winners will head to Gujarat instead.
And there is a nice connection here.
A film on the Statue of Unity is among the award winners this year. Statue of Unity – Ekta Ka Prateek has been recognised at the National Awards. So the film will be honoured practically in the shadow of the monument it is about.
The winners were announced in July. Article 370 won Best Feature Film, Yami Gautam won Best Actress, while Mammootty and Kartik Aaryan shared the Best Actor award. Telugu cinema also has a winner, with Kalki 2898 AD getting the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment award.
So this time, the National Awards have a new address and for one of the winners, the venue couldn’t have been more appropriate.
