The theaters association had called for total shutdown as soon as the new tax system GO was in place post the introduction of GST. The Tamil cinema was aghast by the massive tax they were going to get burdened with. It was the highest in entire India. However, another fraction opposed the strike which caused a situation of chaos.
The strike will go on as long as the Tamil Nadu government doesn’t reconsider its decision as far as taxation is considered. At least that is the idea behind the protest. We have to see how successful they are going to be with their protest.
