Diwali casts a dazzling spell on the Bollywood film industry, serving as the prime time for blockbuster releases. However, when it comes to Tollywood, the festival’s charm seems to be somewhat dimmed, unlike the vibrant celebrations during Dussehra or Sankranthi.
Curiously, Diwali doesn’t shine as brightly in the Telugu film industry, making it an underutilized period for major releases. This year’s Diwali season seems poised for a dull spell at the Telugu box office, with no significant films in the lineup. It’s almost as if the stars are not aligning for Tollywood during this festive time.
A significant opportunity was missed earlier when the September 28-October 2 weekend went to waste due to the postponement of “Salaar.” Now, with Diwali approaching, the anticipation in Tollywood is also rather dim, as no major releases are slated for this festive weekend.
Three dubbed films, Tiger 3, Japan, and Jigarthanda XX are poised to capture the Tollywood box office this Diwali week.
Salman Khan’s Tiger 3 is expected to do well in the Hindi version than the Telugu dubbed version even in the Telugu markets.
Jigarthanda XX looks promising from the trailer but holds little value as far as the box office is concerned as the Telugu audience isn’t a big fan of the first part. The popularity of SJ Suryah and Lawrence should help it grab some eyeballs though.
Karthi is quite a popular star in Telugu and there are some decent expectations from his upcoming film Japan. The film also features comedian Sunil in an important role. If word of mouth is positive for this film, Japan could surprise a little at the box office.
Overall, this year’s Diwali might remain silent with no big crackers to burst at the Telugu box office.
