Village adoption – gone too soon?

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s call to politicians, especially elected representatives and those holding positions of power in the state government to adopt villages in the state did not yield good response. Only 30% of the gram panchayats were adopted.

Even after adoption, most villages did not see any progress as there is no clarity on what to pursue after the adoption. The government had framed no guidelines on the scheme. So most VIPs are using the adoption scheme just for publicity.

There were people’s representatives who announced the adoptions but are yet to visit their adopted villages even once. There are over 1,06 lakh elected representatives in the state including zilla parishad chairmen, vice chairmen, ZPTCs, MPTCs, MPPs, and sarpanches. All the villages would be covered even if the top elected representatives adopt one village each.
