During the trailer launch of Geethanjali Malli Vachindi, when asked about making a sequel to the 2004 comedy Venky, Kona Venkat, the writer-producer, mentioned he wasn’t sure about Venky’s sequel but expressed interest in working on Adhurs’ sequel.
He even joked that he’d go on a hunger strike or camp outside Jr NTR’s house to convince him for the sequel because, according to him, no one could do the character like NTR.
Later, Kona Venkat emphasized, “There is no one who can do better than him. Not just in Telugu cinema, but in the entire Indian industry. That character, that grooming, that modulation… no one in India can do that character like NTR.”
A section of Allu Arjun fans was quick to respond that Allu Arjun also tried a similar role in Duvvada Jagannadham so how could Kona Venkat forget Allu Arjun and say no one could attempt such a role?
Allu Arjun indeed attempted a similar role of a funny priest character and because the impact created by Allu Arjun’s character DJ didn’t match what NTR did in Adurs as Chari, Kona Venkat might have forgotten to mention his name.
Chari’s character played by NTR is an emotion for many. NNTR effortlessly owned the character with his impeccable timing and ease, making it a pop culture phenomenon. The references and memes on Chari’s character are still popular on social media today.
While Allu Arjun’s attempt was commendable, he didn’t quite reach the same level as NTR in portraying the character of a comical priest.
