OTT Beats Remake Rights of Hit Film!

The Tamil industry has been churning out some interesting films of late, like Viduthalai Part 1, Good Night, Ayothi, and Dada. The latest film from Kollywood, which has created ripples at the box office, is Por Thozhil starring Sarath Kumar and Ashok Selvan.

Por Thozhil follows the usual tropes of a serial killer mystery film, but still, it engages you for the most part. The twists are unpredictable, giving an equal amount of chills and thrills to engage the audience.

If it had been released in the pre-COVID era, there would have been a rush to acquire its remake rights in other languages. But now, after the OTT boom, not many producers come forward to buy the remake rights.

After a few weeks of its release, the film will be easily available on OTT platforms, and a large section of the audience will consume it heavily on OTT with subtitles or dubbed version, leaving no box office future for its remake in any language.

Another option would have been to dub the film in other languages, but as the OTT premiere date is nearing, people would prefer to watch it in the comfort of their homes and not go to theaters. This happened with the critically acclaimed Malayalam blockbuster 2018 recently. Its dubbed Telugu version was released a few weeks after its original release. But the audience stayed away from it in theaters and enjoyed it on OTT.

Por Thozhil is going to make its OTT debut On July 10 on SonyLiv. Due to the exciting reviews, the digital audience is already eagerly waiting to catch this serial killer movie on OTT.
