OTT Okay, but Watching Movies on iBOMMA Is Disgraceful

Tollywood industry is struggling to compete with growing OTT platforms while also failing to tackle piracy. Young actor Ravi Teja Mahadasyam, speaking at the Srikakulam Sherlock Holmes pre-release event, made an interesting comment about piracy.

He stated that while watching movies on OTT platforms is acceptable, watching pirated films on platforms like iBomma, Telegram, or Torrents is shameful.

These platforms pose a major threat to small films, as many students download them on mobile phones instead of legally watching them on OTT platforms.

This young, relatively unknown actor urged audiences to wait for OTT releases if they can’t afford tickets, rather than resorting to piracy.

The issue is deeply tied to consumer habits, and a mindset shift is crucial to tackling it. In a country like India, addressing this challenge is even harder, as a significant portion of the population doesn’t mind watching pirated, poor-quality prints on small mobile screens.

Without a change in mindset, filmmakers cannot curb piracy, especially with advancing technology making it easier. In India, where many viewers prioritize convenience over quality, piracy continues to be a major challenge. It’s a sad reality that youth often download low-quality prints and watch them on phones, ignoring the detrimental impact on the industry.
